A Better World Post #3

The Second Course Organization Supplying ex-cons with a second chance through the restaurant industry “No, let’s not eat there, the workers are so sketch.”   Imagine that instead of letting workers with a shady background scare you away from a restaurant, it is what brought you to a restaurant.   The Second Course Organization’s mission is to establish restaurants that will hire ex-convicts in order to give them a second chance and help them to restart their lives once leaving prison.     Our vision is to have a casual, sandwich shop that is run primarily by ex-cons, with only the manager not being from this group, who don’t want to let one mistake define them for the rest of their lives.   I’ve always been interested in opening a restaurant or bakery and through this organization, it also gives ex-cons another chance at restarting their life.   Of course, some crimes are worse than others, but I don’t think that one mistake, that might have been...

First Step

My first step in making the world a better place would be to create more jobs for ex-cons.   And I would want to do this through a food business of some sort and make the appeal of the restaurant that it was offering ex-cons a new opportunity to improve their lives and get back on their feet.   Although this isn’t one of the world’s biggest problems, I do think that this is a good opportunity to help change the community of ex-cons and the way that our society perceives them.   I think that most times cons usually end up doing another crime because they can’t find anywhere that will hire them or they just fall into the same pattern that got them into jail in the first place.   This business could also bring in the different skills of everyone by having them be either cooks or waiters or the accountants or managers.   Of course, there would still have to be a few people within the business who aren’t ex-cons, just to be sure to monitor the new ex-cons when they ...

Just One More Bite (Random pOST #3)

The other day, my friends and I were talking about how when you open a snack, it’s usually easier to finish the whole bag than to close it.   The snack that brought up this topic was Sour Patch Kids and the reasoning was that the sugar would spill everywhere so it’s easier to just finish the whole bag, all the sugar included.   And this is all for the sake of your personal cleanliness of course.   At first I didn’t necessarily agree because first of all, who can eat that many Sour Patch in one sitting?   And second, if this is true then this logic would apply to everything.   My friends then clarified that this was in fact true to everything, a bag of chips, a bowl of pasta, a bottle of wine.   As they continued to discuss this, I started to get swayed and understand their reasoning.   When you save something for later or you try to portion something off, it is never as good it was the first day because air gets into the bag or crumbs will spil...
